RESTAURANT DIALOG. Write a dialog about eating a meal at Engelsviken Brygge Fiskerestaurant (or a different one) with people from your Norwegian class or your Norwegian tour group whom you have just met. Write approx. 25 sentences and be prepared to present your dialog in class.

    • Pre-Writing: Study the menu from Engelsviken Brygge Fiskerestaurant and the dialog on p. 114-115 in the textbook. Make a brief outline for sections to include in your own dialog:
      • Getting a table
      • Introducing yourselves and others
      • Discussing the menu
      • Talking to the waiter
      • Getting to know the other students/tour group members
        (hometowns, studies/work, interests, family, etc.)
      • Eating and commenting on the food
      • Getting the bill and ending the evening
    • First Draft: Write a rough draft of your dialog, but focus more on content than on grammatical correctness.
    • Editing: Read your draft and check the items listed below.
      • Organization: Are the sections in the right order?
      • Cohesion and Style: Have you varied your sentence structure by using different types of questions (yes/no questions and questions with interrogatives)? Do you start some of your answers with adverbials?
    • Spelling and Grammar
      • Check the word order in your questions.
ex.) Hva har du lyst til å bestille? Foretrekker du hvitvin eller rødvin?
      • Check the use of pronouns.
ex.) Fiskesuppen er god. Den kommer med en salat og en bagett.
Check the verb forms (infinitive and present tense/past tense).
ex.) Kan vi få en meny? Hva vil du anbefale i dag?
ex.) Smakte det? Ja, det var deilig!
    • Second draft: Rewrite your description now and make the changes you worked on during the editing process. Submit to your instructor.
