TELEMARK SKIING. Telemark skiing is a type of downhill skiing where the boots are only bound at the toe, not the heel. It originated in Morgedal, Telemark in 1896 when a man named Sondre Norheim won a ski jumping competition, and his style of skiing became very popular. Sondre Norheim later emigrated to the US with his family and settled in North Dakota.
