Ex. 24.14: Life in 2030 – Writing

LIFE IN 2030. Write an essay about your life in the year 2030.You can imagine your future life in a realistic sense or in a more imaginative way. Think also about what balance you have in your life and what you value most. Write at approx. 15-20 sentences and be prepared to present your description in class. Submit to your instructor.

• Pre-Writing: Review the vocabulary for family, occupations, work conditions, and personal finances. Make a brief outline for three paragraphs:
  • Name, age, family
  • Hometown and housing
  • Work, standard of living and consumer goods, and leisure activities. 
• First Draft: Write a rough draft of your essay, but focus more on content than on grammatical correctness.
• Editing: Read your draft and check the items listed below.
  • Organization: Does each paragraph have a main topic? Are the sentences within each paragraph related to each other
  • Cohesion and Style: Have you connected some of the sentences by using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions? Have you varied your sentence structure by starting some sentences with adverbials?
• Spelling and Grammar
  • Check the verb forms (present tense and infinitive).
    ex.) Jeg liker å reise på ferie sammen med familien min.
  • Check the noun forms.
    ex.) Vi har et stort hus, ei hytte og tre biler.
  • Check the use of adverbials/transition words and word order.
    ex.) Jeg er veldig glad i jobben min. Dessuten er jeg fornøyd med lønna.
  • Check the use of subordinating conjunctions and word order.
    ex.) Når jeg har fri fra jobben, pleier jeg å dra på campingtur.
• Second draft: Rewrite your description now and make the changes you worked on during the editing process. Submit to your instructor.
