TRIPS IN NORWAY. Read the text about Kristina’s trip to Norway on p. 216-217 in the textbook and use it as a model in writing your own text about a trip to Norway. Write five paragraphs and be prepared to present your description in class.

    • Pre-Writing: Work with another student in class. Discuss plans for a 10-day trip to Norway and create a chart that outlines your trip. Include  dates for travel, cities to visit, tourist attractions, transportation, accommodations, and activities.
    • First Draft: Write a five-paragraph essay describing your trip in the past tense. Include the following:
      • an introduction with the dates of your trip and an overview of your route.
      • three paragraphs describing different sections of your trip, including information about cities, tourist attractions, transportation, accommodations, activities, and weather.
      • a conclusion that sums up your trip, lists your favorite parts of the trips, and describes what you would like to see next time.
    • Editing: Read your draft and check the items listed below.
      • Organization: Does each paragraph have a main topic? Are the sentences within each paragraph related to each other
      • Cohesion and Style: Have you connected some of the sentences by using conjunctions such as og (and), men (but), fordi (because), som (who, which), når (when), da (when), hvis (if), selv om (even though)?
Have you varied your sentence structure by starting some sentences with adverbials?
    • Spelling and Grammar
      • Check the past tense forms of the verbs
ex.) Jeg reiste til Norge i 2018.
      • Check the use of inverted word order after adverbials and dependent clauses.
ex.) Første dag reiste vi til Bergen. Der besøkte vi Grieghallen og Fisketorget. Da det regnet, gikk vi på museum.
Check the noun and adjective forms.
ex.) Høydepunktene for meg var den fine naturen og de hyggelige menneskene.
    • Second draft: Rewrite your description now and make the changes you worked on during the editing process. Submit to your instructor.
    • Presenting to the class:
      • Make a large poster or a PowerPoint presentation that includes a map of your route and photos or illustrations about the places you visited, the transportation, accommodations, and your activities.
      • Describe your trip to small groups of students or the whole class using just your poster or PowerPoint slides as a guide.
